After successfully completing the Humanities and Science Development Plan lahznimmo architects and Spackman and Mossop Landscape Architects were engaged to design a new campus place between the National Library of Australia and Questacon.
The aim of the Campus place is to provide a major public space to unify the campus precinct and existing design elements. The scheme has two main parts: the restoration and upgrade of the existing National Library of Australia forecourt; and, through the removal of Enid Lyons Street, the creation of a new public space which provides improved amenity for people. Whilst respecting the neo-classical formality of the National Library, the design provides a more appropriate setting for the sculptures of Reconciliation Place and the original Simon Kringas design, as well as the many young visitors to Questacon.
