Sydney Harbour Federation Trust with lahznimmo architects and ASPECT Studios have revitalised HMAS Platypus in North Sydney, the former submarine base for the Royal Australian Navy. The project incorporates new urban parkland and the adaptive re-use of buildings to create commercial and public spaces. New access and site links knit the site into the surrounding context for the first time; allowing pedestrian access into and across the site, and a new over water pedestrian link will provide access to Kesterton Park and High St Ferry Wharf.
We are honoured to be involved in this landmark project and the creation of a new public space for the community to enjoy, with the site having previously been closed to the public for more than 150 years. Prior to our engagement in 2016, Sydney Harbour Federation Trust had undertaken substantial remediation works to the site in addition to extensive community consultation to inform their future Comprehensive Plan and Draft Management Plan.
