The project involved the preparation of a masterplan for the Seymour Centre to generate strategies to reconfigure the entry, activate the courtyard, refurbish and upgrade the public foyers, bar and restaurant areas as well as revising and upgrading the lighting of these areas. From the masterplan the scope for works to be completed in Stage One was established. This initial Stage of works involving mainly an upgrade of Foyer areas is now complete.
The design strategy for the project involved the application of a series of simple plasterboard walls, which appear to float off the existing masonry walls. The new walls rather than seeking to suppress the language of the existing building attempt to complement it and provide some juxtaposition to the cooler and darker existing material palette. The Project also involved upgrading the lighting, as well as the floor coverings and some minor works to the Box Office and Bar areas.
