lahznimmo architects were selected for this project based on their previous performance and delivery track record on the Sydney 2000 Look of the Games, Kit of Parts. The project involved a temporary broadcast pavilion for the NBC Today Show. The design was influenced both by the visually prominent site on the Olympic Boulevard overlooking the Olympic Stadium in addition to the demanding 12 week design and construction program. To achieve this lahznimmo architects assembled a multi-disciplinary team of consultants and contractors to deliver NBC a total design and construct package.
The design involves a simple compact steel framed structure with an open pavilion feel. An iconic winged roof caps the Pavilion and increases the scale and presence of the structure. This roof composes of steel framed trusses wrapped in translucent fabric which allows natural light to filter through during the day as well as being internally lit at night so the roof appears as a dramatic glowing plane.
