lahznimmo were shortlisted from an open competition to one of three firms to develop proposals for the redesign of Henley Square in the City of Charles Sturt, Adelaide.
Situated between the town and beach, the Henley Square redevelopment provides a unique opportunity to enrich and link urban and coastal characters, stitching together the coastal town fabric. The premise of the scheme is to address the wider context of the Square, implementing a vision and strategy that addresses the square and its relationship to the town centre, streets, coastal walk, jetty and beach.
Henley Village has a unique central location along the esplanade linking the coastal villages. The square will be a meeting place and destination for both residents and visitors. From Main Street to the Beach we aim to enhance Henley through a series of linked spatial experiences that realise the full cultural, civic and community potential of the site. We propose a permeable masterplan interconnected and focused around a connecting land jetty, public village green, interpretive pavilion, beachside lawn, vibrant esplanade, and playful Beach Plaza. The spaces whilst visually and physically interconnected seek to breakdown the scale of the site and respond to the village grain of the area.
