The design of Casuarina Beach House C66 consciously draws on the tradition of the ‘fibro beach house’, within the context of a new and sophisticated beachside village.
The house has been designed to take advantage of its elevated corner location, with Living, Kitchen and Dining spaces raised to the first floor enjoying casuarina-filtered views to the beach. A playful ‘Lookout Tower’ performs an urban design role celebrating and marking the street corner as well as providing unimpeded views to Casuarina Beach and Mount Warning.
The construction involves single skin masonry walls to the ground level with lightweight framed walls clad in painted fibre cement to the upper levels. Areas of timber battens, timber pergolas and screening are employed throughout the house to add visual interest and shading from summer sun. Floors are mainly reinforced concrete, with timber framing used for the Living Room and Lookout. The material selection has also been informed by the harsh beachside environment and is aimed at creating a relatively low maintenance beachside dwelling.
