lahznimmo were invited by Multiplex to participate in a shortlisted paid competition to provide a solution for the treatment of a piece of redundant elevated freeway infrastructure (“the stub”) below the Western Distributor in the Sydney CBD. Our solution was derived from the mapping and plotting of the movement of pedestrians and vehicles on the ground plane below the stub at and around Sussex Street. We proposed an array of suspended “bristles” which appear to sway and spread as if worn by the various movements below. The resulting texture would be achieved through variations in length and angle and, during the night, would be perceived by virtue of the perforations and internal illumination of each bristle.
