lahznimmo architects were engaged by the Zoological Parks Board to prepare a Masterplanning Study of the Taronga Centre Redevelopment, which would reassert the Centre’s identity as a ‘world class function centre’. The study involved assessment of the building at a masterplanning level that highlighted major operational deficiencies accumulated over the building’s 20-year lifespan. The resulting strategies proposed take the form of precise and discrete interventions, including: An aesthetic, BCA and services upgrade of the Centre’s two main function levels, corresponding kitchen and entry lobby in line with proposed increases in capacity and quality of finishes, Proposing two new circulation systems: a new glazed front-of-house circulation system and corresponding forecourt and establishing a new back-of-house circulation. Methodology included participation and presentation at a series of workshops, which resulted in the production of a detailed report identifying a recommended Scope of Work, with accompanying Construction Management Feasibility and Cost Plan.
