The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority engaged Spackman and Mossop Landscape Architects and lahznimmo architects to develop appropriate urban domain strategies for the Elizabeth Macarthur Bay site at Pyrmont up to a Development Application level of documentation. These strategies needed to address and incorporate the multi-unit housing proposed for the site, define public from private open space, as well as retain the maritime structures left from the site’s previous Water Police function. The relationship between the existing wharf structures and Harris Street was a key generator for the scheme allowing Harris Street to be visually and physically extended into the harbour. The existing maritime structures were overlaid with programmed and unprogrammed public space, which sought to maximize the public’s opportunity to interact with the waters edge and harbour.
