This project involved substantial external remodeling, internal reorganization and landscaping to the rear of a house situated on a large, leafy site in Roseville. The house had an existing pool and tennis court. The brief involved moving new kitchen, bath and laundry areas to the western side of the house to allow the creation of a large living area facing northeast. The design used a “verandah” deck area suspended over the existing pool to connect the new living area to the outside. The existing pool surround area was repaved and additional timber screens, pergolas and low wall elements have been used to define the area. The existing house had had numerous additions and a fairly oppressive dark face brick finish. The external brief was to lighten the look of the house and integrate it with the new landscaping as well as create some additional detail and relief to the façade. To achieve this, timber louvres were added to existing windows and the brickwork was rendered and finished with a cement paint.
