The Botanic Gardens Trust proposes to expand its scientific program and develop the PlantBank at Mount Annan Botanic Garden. The PlantBank will comprise state-of-the art laboratories, library facilities, collection storage, offices, meeting spaces and outdoor areas that will make a significant impact on the outcomes for the Trust and community. At the heart of the PlantBank is the Seedbank, a repository for many thousands of seeds from Australian native plants. The seeds will be held in perpetuity, enabling highly threatened species to exist in the laboratory and the restoration of degraded and lost habitat. Lahznimmo Architects were engaged by Root Projects Australia to assist in the development of the Business Case through the preparation of a concept design. The Business Case was successful and funding was announced in the 2010 budget. The concept creates an interpretative interface between the researchers and the visitors to garden.
